BOOZE WITHOUT THE HANGOVER MAY BE COMING

As I languish through a miserable weekend with strep throat, not much is making me happy. This little tidbit, though, brightened my evening somewhat.

Professor David Nutt, one of Britain's top drug experts, is developing a synthetic alcohol substitute developed from chemicals similar in composition to Valium that could give users the pleasant feelings of tipsiness without affecting the parts of the brain that lead to barroom brawls, crippling addiction, and sleeping in your car.

To get the skinny, check out the article at Popular Science.

And for shits and giggles, check out this cute/maybe-not-so-cute vid (depending on your sense of humor) of a pug that's said to be drunk. Dunno if it's true, but the dog does look hungover as hell.

  1. Just drink slightly less for a hangover free morning...or just deal with one!

That dog just had "morning face". It's probably got two young daughters that like to play musical beds all through the night, or is that just me?

    All the best Anthony, David.

  2. While o hangover, I don't think I'd be in a big hurry to try a chemical substitute for alcohol. Sounds sketchy.

    Hope you're feeling better.

  3. Oh no! Not synthehol! I like the yin and yang of alcohol -- what kind of karmic disasters might happen if one attains euphoria without earning it or accepting the payback?

  5. I think all pugs have that dopey, hungover look when they sleep. I had a roommate who unwittingly got my pug high during a party when I wasn't around. Contact pot high. When I got home, I was perplexed as I watched her stumble around then finally throw up and pass out.

(sorry, I thought I posted this in the wrong piece, so I deleted it)
