The first link leads to an article that starts out interesting and then seems to serve to denigrate the modern hipster, as if the long lead-in was only to set-up the researcher's comments on how uncool the most recent incarnation of the renegade really is.

ah, kerouac outside the old white horse. a good bar. too hip for me now, and they serve $5 beers...Kerouac couldn't take a piss in the white horse now. a shame.
