'DRAGON TATTOO' SETS E-MILESTONE

And who said people wouldn't read on their electronic thing-a-ma-jigs?

Late Swedish author Stieg Larsson's Millennium trilogy has set an electronic milestone and has sold over 1 million copies in the e-book editions, publisher Alfred A. Knopf said yesterday.

He's the second scribe to join the e-million club -- "Along Came A Spider" scribe and mystery thriller writer James Patterson also sold more than 1 million e-books.

Amazon.com, the biggest player in the growing e-book market, told AP that Larsson's "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo," (the first book in the Millennium trilogy) is the all-time top seller on the e-book reading device the Kindle.

  1. "The DaVinci Code" and "Angels and Demons" are written by Dan Brown, not James Patterson.

James Patterson is the prolific author of the Alex Cross series (which I've read none of but seem to recall it's up to over fifteen books)

Amazon also recently announced that Kindle versions outsold hardcover editions this past quarter. I think it's safe to say ebooks are not going away.

  2. Oops. My bad ... Thanks for letting me know... I remember reading t5hat Dan Brown set some sort of e-record with his third Robert Langdon book. For some reason, that was still in my mind.

  3. To be fair to those people who say they'll never read off electronic copies, the AP's figures suggest print is has upwards of 29 times more sales than the e-book (if it's 1,000,000 out of 30,000,000 copies worldwide). It's just that the series is so insanely popular. Get me Larsson's press and I'll happily publish wherever you ask!

  4. From what I've heard about the book, I think it will be passed soon...but nevertheless, that is exciting news for many writers.

    I gotta get me a thing-a-ma-jig. I have a thingy-ma-jig, but I don't think it's comparable:)

  5. Well, Anthony, I haven't contributed to that figure. Too many other great things to read...I have over 1600 books on my e-reader (and SD card)...think that should keep me going for a little while!

  6. I think now that ebook readers are coming out in more formats and for more reasonable prices, you'll see more and more ebooks selling in the high numbers. It's just more convenient to downlead a paperless copy, especially when you want something to read rightnow!
